Why Choose Us

01

Fluency from the start

From your very first class, you’ll be speaking in te reo Māori. All our learning happens through full immersion. Each lesson gently builds your reo, step by step. Mistakes are a natural part of the journey - you’ll learn and grow by listening, speaking, and gaining confidence over time.

02

Learning by listening and speaking

Watching, listening, and speaking te reo Māori is the key to building confidence. It tunes your ear to what sounds right. Before long, you’ll feel comfortable hearing and understanding the reo. Mistakes are part of the journey - you’re in control of your learning.

03

A close circle of supportive fellow learners

Learning each week with the same small group helps grow your confidence to kōrero. Your group becomes your biggest support — a safe space where everyone encourages each other. No one judges, no one pushes you faster than you're ready to go.

04

No assessments

We don’t do exams or formal qualifications. There’s no pressure or external measures on your learning. The best qualification is your ability to kōrero Māori and take part in reo rumaki (immersion) with confidence.

05

Reo-speaking Communities

For over forty years Te Ataarangi has run classes in communities.  These have been for the most part low-key small and volunteer community groups in people’s garages, kitchens and at marae to create space to learn the reo together. We have created Ataarangi ONLINE so every one of us has access to reo Māori in Aotearoa and around the world.

Testimonials

What Our Clients Say

"Everybody was making mistakes and it was fun.  It wasn't scary. Making mistakes was how we learnt. No one put any pressure on you to get it right. No one made a fool of you.”

Jesse Jenkins, December 2024

“What is a tohu (qualification) if you can't speak?   If I can't turn up to my workplace and kōrero confidently with my patients, or I can’t korero with others then what's that tohu worth? I see the value in the fact that I can now speak it and I never could three years ago.”

Bronwyn Gullivich, December 2024

“I have been in Aotearoa for 39 years and a repeat offender at Level 1 te reo for all that time. Te Ataarangi has turbo-charged my learning and I will move to Level 3 in September. Learning te reo is the one thing that makes me feel at home in Aotearoa.”

Harriet Crampton, Head of Drama

Te Ataarangi utilises the way that language is naturally acquired… It's allowing your subconscious to absorb what you're hearing.

 Spencer Stoner, Senior Producer

The first two or three weeks I had stage fright before every single class. And now the two hour class feels like it's 10 minutes

Kylie Croft, Head of Production

What I love is the way you are not just answering questions but you have to ask the questions as well.

Tash Christie, Head of Factual

For my team it's been an amazing experience... not just the language but te ao Māori and how that applies into our work life. I encourage any CEO to support their team to do this.”
